Government Investigates Strict Action against Vape Related to Drugs

JAKARTA - The government is studying strict action against the use of e-cigarettes or vapes related to drugs. The study does not include a ban on all vape products.

Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago said the government was still studying the steps to be taken.

"I just told him to try to learn so that we can take firm action," said Djamari at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday, July 23.

He emphasized that the action was only directed at vapes related to drugs, not electric cigarettes in general.

"Oh, it's related to drugs," he said.

When asked whether the government would ban all e-cigarettes, Djamari replied, "No."

The government has not set when the policy will be implemented. The form of regulation has also not been explained, including whether it will target sales, circulation, or use.

Djamari said further discussion was still being handled by the relevant team.

"Let's let the team handle it first," he said.
