JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno invites the press to take advantage of the remaining time for registration for the 2026 Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin Journalism Award (MHT) which is still open until July 31.
Rano highlighted two special categories this year, namely "Welcoming 5 Centuries of Jakarta" and "Jakarta Bank Literacy", as a space to present journalistic works that are not only informative but also have an impact on the public.
The invitation was conveyed by Rano when receiving an audience from the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Jaya regarding the implementation of the MHT 2026 Journalism Award.
On this occasion, he also appreciated the involvement of Bank Jakarta as a sponsor of the journalistic award event which has been held for more than five decades.
"There is still time until July 31, 2026 to submit the best work. Use this momentum towards the five centuries of Jakarta as inspiration to produce quality journalistic works and benefit the community," said Rano, Thursday, July 16.
According to Rano, the category "Welcoming 5 Centuries of Jakarta" is an opportunity for journalists to record the journey and transformation of the capital ahead of its 500th birthday in 2027. Meanwhile, the "Literasi Bank Jakarta" category is expected to expand public understanding of Bank Jakarta's transformation and its contribution to the regional economy.
Rano also supports PWI Jaya's plan to hold the MHT Journalism Awards on a larger scale in 2027 to coincide with the commemoration of Jakarta's five hundred years.
"The press has an important role in documenting history while accompanying the development of Jakarta in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PWI Jaya Kesit Budi Handoyo said the support of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government was an encouragement for the implementation of the MHT Journalism Award to continue to grow as an event to appreciate journalistic works about Jakarta.
"The MHT Journalism Award is not only a competition, but also a form of appreciation for journalists who present quality works for the community while recording the development of Jakarta," said Kesit.
Kesit assessed that collaboration with Bank Jakarta through the special category of financial literacy was a step to encourage the birth of journalistic works that not only meet professional standards, but also educate the public about the financial services sector.
According to him, the media has a strategic role in delivering accurate information related to innovation, services, digital transformation, to Bank Jakarta's contribution in supporting regional economic development and strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
