The victim, with the initials AS (26), is a woman from Tegal, Central Java, while the man suspected of being involved in the incident has the initials MZ (26), a foreigner from Singapore.

Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police, Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, said the exact cause of the victim's death was still under investigation and the police were also waiting for the results of the autopsy to determine the cause of death.

"This case is still under investigation by the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The victim's body has been evacuated to Prof Ngoerah Hospital, Denpasar, and is planned to undergo an autopsy to find out the cause of death," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 16.

Adi explained that the incident occurred on Wednesday (15/7) evening at around 19.00 Wita. The victim's sister with the initials RA came to the boarding house because she could not contact her brother for several days.

When he arrived at the location, RA smelled a very pungent smell. After opening the dormitory room, the witness saw part of the victim's body which had been covered with dolls and carpets.

Not long after, the foreign man from Singapore who was known to be the victim's boyfriend came out of the room next to him.

When asked about the whereabouts of the victim, Adi continued, the man did not give an answer.

Because of suspicion, the witness hit the man with a helmet. After that, the Singaporean man fled by riding a motorcycle.

From the witness's statement, the victim and the perpetrator were known to live together in the boarding house since March 2025. The victim was also said to have been involved in several quarrels with the perpetrator due to an affair.

The police also asked for information from a woman with the initials DP who admitted that she had only known the perpetrator for three days.

DP admitted that he was invited to stay in the boarding house on July 11, 2026 and had smelled a bad smell from inside the room.

According to Adi, when he asked the perpetrator about the source of the smell on July 14, 2026, the perpetrator was said to be angry while hitting the wall and asking the witness not to ask too many questions.

Based on the results of the crime scene investigation, the victim's body was found in a prone position on the floor of the room. The victim's body was covered with dolls and carpets, and had swollen and decayed, causing a pungent odor.

The police did not find any open wounds on the victim's body because the condition of the body had already decomposed.
