JAKARTA - Member of the E Commission of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Farah Savira, asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to strictly formulate the criteria for recipients of the DKI LPDP Scholarship Program so that the educational assistance was targeted.
According to Farah, scholarships must be prioritized for students with excellent achievements who come from poor families.
Farah reminded that the program should not be enjoyed by students who have adequate economic ability, including for financing education abroad.
"The criteria for recipients must be appropriate. Don't let the children who are outstanding from poor families miss out," said Farah, Wednesday, July 15.
According to him, there are still many students from Jakarta who have managed to get into universities, but have difficulty continuing their education due to limited funds. This condition makes some students forced to work while studying to pay for tuition fees (UKT).
"Many students have to work while studying because of cost constraints. This must be a concern," said Farah.
Farah assessed that the DKI LPDP Scholarship Program should be an instrument to expand access to higher education while reducing disparities due to economic factors.
Therefore, he hopes that the assistance will really target students who have academic achievements, but are constrained by education costs. "This program must be a solution for students with achievements who are constrained by costs," he continued.
Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung said that the Jakarta LPDP program would begin to be funded through the APBD next year with an allocation of around Rp. 100 billion.
Pramono ensured that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government had begun allocating a budget of around Rp. 100 billion to finance dozens of students to continue their education abroad in 2027.
"For the LPDP, in the upcoming APBD, the budget is approximately Rp. 100 billion. If Rp. 100 billion, then the LPDP in Jakarta will manage approximately 50 to 75 students who will be sent abroad by the DKI Jakarta Government," said Pramono, some time ago.
The Jakarta LPDP program will be carried out through cooperation between the DKI Provincial Government and the central LPDP. The DKI Government prepares the budget, while the scholarship management mechanism still refers to the national LPDP system.
"The budget is from the Jakarta government, the placement, the determination of the place, the university is also from the students concerned, who are chosen by the DKI Jakarta Government. But the mechanism for getting out, because the LPDP is only one, namely the central LPDP, the central government that facilitates it," said Pramono.
Pramono emphasized that there were special requirements for prospective recipients of the Jakarta LPDP. In addition to following the applicable provisions at the central LPDP, recipients must have the status of residents of DKI Jakarta.
