Megawati's Honorary Professor Title Is Related To Prabowo, Gerindra: It's Legal

JAKARTA - Chairperson of the PDI-P (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri holds the title of honorary professor for defense science in the field of Strategic Leadership at the Defense Faculty.

The news circulated that the awarding of an honorary professor title by the Defense University (IDU) was related to the 'intimacy' of the Defense Minister (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto and Megawati towards the 2024 presidential election coalition.

Responding to these rumors, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad considered this assumption to be a natural thing in politics.

"In terms of politics, people can analyze anyone and it's legal," said Dasco at the DPR building, Jakarta, Friday, June 11.

The daily chairman of the DPP Gerindra Party again stated that until now his party has not decided on the 2024 presidential election coalition. The issue of candidacy, he said, will usually be decided in a special internal party forum.

"In Gerindra itself, the matter of the coalition has not been decided and we usually have a special forum for that and usually not at the beginning," he said.

However, Dasco admits, his party is now focusing on consolidating ahead of the upcoming 2024 general election.

"We are currently focusing on consolidating the party," said Dasco.

It is known that the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri officially holds the title of Honorary Professor with the status of a non-permanent professor by the Indonesian Defense University. The awarding ceremony was held at the Defense University Campus, Sentul, Bogor, West Java.

The awarding of this title was determined through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 33271/mpk.a/kp.05.00/2021 which was signed by Nadiem Makarim.

"As of June 1, 2021, he will be appointed as a professor in strategic leadership science. Established in Jakarta on May 20, 2021. Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Anwar Makarim," said the Secretary of the Academic Senate in an event broadcast on the Official Defense University YouTube account on Friday, June 11 .

In the awarding ceremony, Megawati was accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who is also the General Chair of the Gerindra Party. The PDI-P general chairman was also accompanied by his three children, namely Mohammad Rizki Pratama, Puan Maharani and Prananda Prabowo.
