TANGERANG - The fire at the Jatiwaringin Landfill, Mauk District, Tangerang Regency, Banten, which has lasted for six days has forced 102 residents to be evacuated to a safer location. In addition, 72 residents were reported to have acute respiratory tract infections (ISPA) due to exposure to the smoke from the fire.

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Tangerang Regency recorded that the evacuees were residents of Tanjakan Mekar Village, Rajeg District, who were affected by the smoke from the Jatiwaringin landfill fire.

Tangerang Regent Maesyal Rasyid said the local government had prepared two evacuation posts, each located at the Tanjakan Mekar Village Office and the Rajeg Mulya Village Office.

"From the first day to the sixth day, we placed the affected residents in two posts," said Maesyal.

The local government continues to ensure that the basic needs of refugees, including health services and logistics, are met during the emergency response period.

In addition to evacuating residents, the Tangerang Regency Government also handled dozens of residents who suffered health problems due to the smoke from the fire.

Maesyal revealed that as many as 72 residents had acute respiratory tract infections (ISPA). They are currently still receiving treatment from Tangerang Regency Health Service (Dinkes) officers.

"The main thing is the health of officers and the community. The Health Office and the health center stay at the evacuation post," he explained.

The Jatiwaringin landfill fire occurred since Tuesday, June 30 and until now is still being handled by joint officers. The extinguishing operation involves fire brigades, heavy equipment, water bombing helicopters, and Manggala Agni personnel.

Based on the latest developments, the area that is still on fire is only about 3.6% or 1.68 hectares from around 18 hectares of land that was previously engulfed in flames. Even though the fire point continues to decrease, officers remain vigilant about the potential for embers that can re-ignite due to the heat under the pile of garbage.
