JAKARTA - A joint team involving BPBD, Damkar and Satpol PP evacuated 150 passengers on the KM Makmur Jaya ship. The ship's engine was reported to have malfunctioned while sailing in the waters west of Pari Island, South Thousand Islands, Sunday, July 5 morning.

"The evacuation process went smoothly thanks to the coordination of all involved elements and the support of local residents," said the Head of the Thousand Islands BPBD, Mansyah in Jakarta, quoted by ANTARA on Sunday.

He said that after receiving the report, the joint team immediately moved to the location to ensure the safety of all passengers.

"Alhamdulillah, all 150 passengers were successfully evacuated in a safe condition and received a health examination after arriving at Pari Island," he said.

According to him, after the health examination, the passengers were then sent back to their final destination, namely Pramuka Island using the BPBD ship.

"Passenger safety is the top priority. After confirming that all passengers are in good condition, we facilitated them to continue their journey to Pramuka Island," he said.

There were no casualties in the incident. The material losses due to this incident are estimated to reach around IDR 50 million. Until now, the KM Makmur Jaya ship is still under further handling by the parties concerned.

Previously, the passenger transport ship KM Makmur Jaya with a capacity of 51 GT departed from Kali Adem Port, North Jakarta to Pramuka Island at 08.15 WIB.

Meanwhile, the captain of the Makmur Jaya KM, Murinan, explained that the disturbance occurred due to fuel mixed with water, which affected the performance of the ship's engine.

When the crew checked, it was found that there was a mixture of water in the fuel so that the engine was disturbed and the ship could not continue the voyage.

"We immediately coordinated with the officers and were grateful that all passengers could be evacuated safely," he said.

The ship's passenger, Yuli (42), admitted that he was worried when the ship stopped in the middle of the sea.

However, he felt calm after the joint officers came and evacuated.

"At first we were quite worried because the ship was not moving and was swaying. But the officers came quickly and gave directions to the passengers. Thank God everyone is safe and can continue the journey," he said.
