Transferred To Medan, 81 Rohingya Refugees From Aceh Undergo 2 Weeks Of Isolation

ACEH - A total of 81 refugees from Myanmar from the Rohingya ethnicity in East Aceh, Aceh Province were moved to Medan City, North Sumatra on Thursday, June 10.

Upon arrival in Medan City, they were immediately placed in a shelter on Jalan Jamin Ginting, Medan, to undergo isolation.

"We are isolating them for two weeks as a requirement determined by the Medan City Government," said Program Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Sonya Syafitri to reporters as reported by Antara.

He said the transfer was a recommendation for a meeting between the central Overseas Refugee Handling Task Force (PPLN), the Medan City Government and the East Aceh City Government.

After the decision, IOM together with other relevant parties worked quickly to carry out medical tests before departing from East Aceh to Medan. "We also carried out antigen tests for them," he said.

Furthermore, UNHCR will register and include them in the list of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar. After that, they will be moved to a place that has been provided for the refugees.

"They will receive health facilities and some non-formal education, both for children and adults as well as some skills training. Later, every month they will receive support for living expenses here," he said.
