The Prabowo-Puan Duet Is Considered To Be Possible In The 2024 Presidential Election

JAKARTA - The duet of Gerindra General Chair Prabowo Subianto and PDIP DPP Chairperson Puan Maharani is considered to be possible in the 2024 presidential election. Prabowo is a presidential candidate and Puan is a vice presidential candidate or vice versa if the Gerindra and PDIP coalition is realized.

"This couple is the most suitable because of the factors of age (old-young), gender (male-female), and military-civilian background," said Director of the Indonesian Survey and Polling Institute (SPIN), Igor Dirgantara, Thursday, June 10.

However, according to him, it cannot be predicted about the finalization of the distribution of who becomes the presidential candidate and who is the vice presidential candidate. Because, said Igor, both of them have their own advantages to be placed as RI 1 candidates.

In addition, when compared to the PDIP party, it is more leading than Gerindra. Meanwhile, Prabowo's electability is higher than that of Puan.

"One of the obstacles for this pair is the view that PDIP is the winning political party with 128 seats in parliament. Do you want to position its candidate in the position of RI-2?," said Igor.

"The answer, of course, is that Prabowo's electability is much higher, as well as his experience," he continued.

According to him, it is possible to redefine the Slate Agreement later. At that time, in the 2009 Slate agreement (volume I) there was a clause that Prabowo was the vice presidential candidate and Megawati was the presidential candidate.

At that time, there was an agreement that PDIP would support Prabowo in the 2014 presidential election. However, it was canceled because PDIP finally nominated Joko Widodo.

"Then later on the opposite, the 2024 Writing Stone (volume II) can also make a clause that if Puan Maharani becomes Prabowo's vice presidential candidate in 2024, Gerindra will in turn support the nomination of Puan Maharani as a presidential candidate in the next 2029," said Igor.

Previously, the Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto spoke about the picture of the 2024 coalition. Hasto spoke from the Slate agreement between his party and Prabowo Subianto to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY).

"If the Batu Tulis inscription is meant in a political context, Prabowo and Megawati, yes, the 2009 election is over. So the requirement to run a joint government when winning the election is proven to be impossible," said Hasto in a written statement.

This response was conveyed by Hasto regarding the statement by the Secretary General of Gerindra Ahmad Muzani regarding the possibility of Prabowo being promoted by PDIP in the 2024 presidential election. This was related to the Slate Agreement between the two parties in the 2009 presidential election, when Megawati-Prabowo ran as a pair.
