BANGKALAN - President Prabowo Subianto said the government had closed down around 240 state-owned companies that were considered unhealthy.

This was conveyed by Prabowo when he gave a speech at the closing of the 2026 NU Alim Ulama and Great Conference (Konbes) in Bangkalan, Tuesday, June 23.

Prabowo admitted that he only knew that the number of SOEs was more than 1,000 companies after becoming president. Previously, he thought the number was only around 300.

According to Prabowo, many state-owned companies continue to lose money, but still burden the state's finances.

"No one benefits, it continues to lose," said Prabowo.

He said the government had the potential to close 700 to 800 unhealthy state-owned enterprises. From the closure of 240 companies alone, the state could save trillions of rupiah.

Prabowo also touched on the large costs of directors and commissioners in these companies.

He insinuated that there were companies that had lost money, but still asked for bonuses.

"It's a waste to ask for a bonus again," he said.

Prabowo emphasized that the closure of problematic SOEs was part of the government's efforts to stop waste and leakage of public money.
