JAKARTA - The Iran-United States agreement aimed at ending the war in the Middle East will be signed at the Burgenstock mountain resort in Switzerland on Friday, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said.

Tehran and Washington announced on Sunday they had agreed to a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict, which erupted following a US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28 and led to an escalation in the Middle East.

"At this stage, the signing is scheduled for Friday, June 19, at the Burgenstock," the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement, launching Al Arabiya from AFP (17/6).

This super-luxury resort, which is located high above Lake Lucerne in central Switzerland, is difficult to access because it is surrounded by water on three sides, and therefore easy to secure.

The location, the ministry said, "was proposed by the mediators of Pakistan and Qatar, as well as by the US and Iran."

"Switzerland acted as a facilitator in this process, creating the practical and diplomatic conditions necessary for this meeting to take place in Swiss territory," he explained.

Previously, the resort was also used for a two-day meeting to discuss efforts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, which was attended by representatives from more than 90 countries in June 2024, quoted from AFP.

The deal follows weeks of tense negotiations and renewed threats of hostilities.

According to a senior US official, the framework agreement was signed electronically by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Iran's chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

The text of the agreement has not been made public, raising doubts about what was specifically agreed in the difficult negotiations to end the conflict.

The two sides are at odds over terms surrounding Iran's nuclear program, sanctions, and the Strait of Hormuz.

However, Vice President Vance told CNN it was "only about a page and a half, so it's a very common document."
