JAKARTA - General Chairman of the Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto touched on the downturn in the party bearing the banyan symbol due to the previous chairman, Setya Novanto, who became a suspect in the e-KTP corruption case in November 2017.

Airlangga said this in front of Golkar Party cadres when giving his Accountability Report (LPJ) Speech at the X Golkar National Conference at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Wednesday, December 4.

When Novanto became a suspect, Airlangga replaced him. Airlangga carried out this task for two years. All leaders and cadres of the Golkar Party at that time gave their full support in the hope that he would succeed in bringing the party across the vast ocean amidst the storms and waves.

He added that the trust and hope had been carried out well. In addition, he also received support from all levels of management at all levels, senior figures and cadres of the Golkar Party throughout the country.

"More than two years from 2014 to 2016 there has been a dualism of management both at the central and regional levels. In such a situation, the consolidation of cadre and coaching organizations does not work properly," said Airlangga.

Airlangga explained that after the 2016 extraordinary national meeting (Munaslub) took place in Bali, at that time the Golkar Party led by Novanto, carried out national political maneuvers. Initially outside the government with the red and white coalition, then it changed to a party supporting the Jokowi-JK government together with the Great Indonesia Coalition.

Furthermore, said Airlangga, with a new enthusiasm and political position, the management of the 2016 Munaslub results carried out reconciliation and organizational consolidation at all levels. However, the organization's work could not continue because the party leadership was hit by a legal accident, because Novanto was sent to prison.

"At that time, the Golkar Party became the hot topic of the media. Especially negative news on social media, so that the image and electability of the Golkar Party decreased quite sharply. In this crucial situation it led to the 2017 Munaslub and I was elected chairman by acclamation," he explained. .

"Like a ship that has been knocked over by a big storm, Golkar wins the skipper to save the ship. So that passengers can safely reach their destination," he continued.

When Golkar was in a slump, said Airlangga, he moved quickly to formulate creative strategies to attract public sympathy by announcing a slogan 'Golkar is clean, Golkar is rising'. He admitted, these expressions felt so powerful that they echoed throughout the country.

"Not only does it stop at the jargon or slogan level, but is carried out in organizational policies. For anyone who is involved in corruption, let alone exposed to OTT by the KPK, the Golkar Party does not hesitate to immediately stop all positions and positions in the party," he said.
