JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo emphasized that the placement of members of the National Police in positions outside the police structure would be carried out based on the needs of the agencies that make requests and through mechanisms regulated in laws and regulations.

The statement was made by the National Police Chief in response to the ratification of changes to the Police Law which also regulates the retirement age and assignment of members of the National Police to certain positions outside the police institution.

Sigit said the National Police had opened a space that was reciprocal regarding the placement of personnel outside the organizational structure from the beginning, but the process still had to follow the applicable provisions.

"On our side, of course, we open up space for reciprocity if the National Police is placed outside the structure, we also give that space," said Sigit as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 10.

According to him, the placement of members of the National Police in civil positions is not carried out unilaterally by the police institution, but must be initiated by a request from the ministry or agency that needs it.

In addition, the process of filling permanent positions must go through the mechanisms set by the government, including through the Ministry of State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB).

"As long as there is a demand, then through the relevant ministries, in this case the PAN-RB Ministry, through the open bidding mechanism or the mechanism determined in accordance with existing regulations, of course, we will follow that stage," he said.

The National Police Chief emphasized that there would be no placement of members of the National Police in civil positions if there was no need or request from the relevant agency.

"However, as long as there is no request, we will not place or encourage the National Police. Because the concept is like that," he said.

He added that the derivative rules of the new Police Law that has just been passed will later become further guidelines in the implementation of the provisions.

Previously, the DPR RI plenary session on Tuesday (9/6) had approved the Draft Law on the Third Amendment to Law Number 2 of 2002 concerning the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia (RUU Polri) was enacted into law.

Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, said the Police Bill was designed to improve various arrangements, following the enactment of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP).
