SEMARANG - The Chairman of the Indonesian Electricity Society (MKI) for Central Java and DIY Regions, Ir. Soewondo Koesoemo, expressed full support for the acceleration of the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) and the use of waste processing technology into electric energy as part of efforts to strengthen national energy resilience and realize a transition to clean energy.

According to Soewondo, the development of EBT is a strategic step that must continue to be encouraged to reduce dependence on fossil energy while supporting the government's target of achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE).

He assessed that the development of renewable energy-based electricity infrastructure is not only a future need, but also an important foundation for the sustainability of the national energy sector.

Therefore, MKI has consistently encouraged the acceleration of the development of various clean energy projects in Central Java and other regions in Indonesia.

In various electricity forums, Soewondo revealed that Central Java has great potential in the development of renewable energy sources, ranging from solar energy, biomass, to the use of waste as a source of electrical energy.

According to him, the transformation of the energy sector is not only aimed at meeting the increasing electricity needs, but also an important instrument in reducing carbon emissions and maintaining environmental sustainability. For this reason, he encourages the establishment of strong synergies between the government, PLN, investors, universities, and the business world to accelerate the realization of various EBT projects in the region.

Apart from the development of renewable energy, Soewondo also highlighted the importance of the implementation of Waste-to-Energy (WtE) or Waste-to-Energy (WtE) technology as a solution to the increasing waste problem in various regions. According to him, waste that has been a burden on the environment can be converted into a source of economically valuable and environmentally friendly energy. Through the use of this technology, the volume of waste that goes into the Final Disposal Site (TPA) can be significantly reduced while generating electricity that is beneficial to the community.

MKI assesses that government policies and regulations that support the processing of waste into energy open up great opportunities for local governments and investors to develop PLTSa more widely. Central Java is said to have very promising potential given the high volume of waste generation in a number of districts and cities. Therefore, MKI encourages local governments to immediately map potential, prepare land, and prepare supporting regulations to accelerate the realization of projects to process waste into electricity.

Soewondo hopes that the acceleration of the development of EBT and the implementation of waste processing technology into electricity can provide a double benefit for Indonesia, namely increasing the availability of national electricity supply while helping to overcome increasingly complex environmental issues. He emphasized that the collaboration of all stakeholders is the main factor in realizing a clean, sustainable energy system that is able to support national economic growth in the future.

"The development of renewable energy and the use of waste as electricity is a real step towards a more independent, sustainable, and environmentally friendly energy future for Indonesia. With strong collaboration between the government, business world, academics, and society, I am optimistic that the national energy transition target can be achieved," said Soewondo.
