JAKARTA - The income of the commercial area of the Indonesian Hajj hotel in the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj season increased even though the number of tenants and business units decreased compared to the previous year.

Data on the management of commercial areas shows that this year's hajj season has 44 tenants and 61 business units. This number is down from the previous season which recorded 46 tenants and 82 business units.

Director General of the Development of the Hajj and Umrah Economic Ecosystem, Jaenal Effendi, said the increase in revenue showed that the management of commercial areas was becoming more selective and productive.

"The optimization of the commercial area of the Hajj hotel is directed to create more productive, effective, and sustainable management so that it can provide greater economic added value," said Jaenal, quoted in Jakarta, Monday (1/6/2026).

According to Jaenal, the management of commercial areas is no longer merely pursuing a large number of tenants. The government has begun to arrange business points based on the needs of pilgrims, the quality of services, and the contribution to the economic ecosystem of Hajj and Umrah.

"Although in terms of quantity tenants have decreased, the results obtained have actually increased. This shows that the management of commercial areas is increasingly optimal and targeted," he said.

The optimization is carried out through cooperation between the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia with BPKH Limited. In this scheme, the Ministry of Hajj acts as a regulator. Its role includes determining the basic tariff, approving the location point, as well as regulatory support and access to services.

In the 1447 H/2026 M Hajj season, the commercial area of the Hajj hotel presents 61 business units. The details are, 31 restaurants and 30 baqalah or retail stores.

The business units are spread across five operational areas of the Indonesian Hajj in Mecca, namely Syisyah, Raudhah, Jarwal, Misfalah, and Aziziyah. In addition, there are two cargo business units to support logistics services and delivery of goods for pilgrims.

Data as of May 11, 2026 also shows that the types of businesses are becoming more diverse. If last year there were only two types of businesses, this season has grown to five types of businesses.

The Ministry of Religion considers the use of the commercial area of the Hajj hotel as part of strengthening the economy of Hajj and Umrah. In addition to pursuing income, this management is also directed to support the needs of Indonesian pilgrims while in Saudi Arabia.
