JAKARTA - Tallo Police investigators have applied layered articles against suspect IK (19) in the case of sexual assault accompanied by the murder of a girl with the initials JN (12) in an empty house on Jalan Sultan Abdullah II, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

Tallo Police Chief AKP Asfada said the victim's family hoped the perpetrator would be sentenced to death for his actions.

"The victim's parents want the perpetrator to be sentenced to death," Asfada said, Sunday.

However, investigators charged the suspect with Article 459 of the Criminal Code concerning premeditated murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or a maximum of 20 years in prison.

In addition, the suspect was also charged with Article 458 of the Criminal Code for his actions resulting in the victim's death, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Investigators also charged the perpetrator with Article 473 paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) letters b and c related to rape of a helpless child, with a maximum penalty of 12 years in prison.

Asfada said that so far investigators have not found any indication of the involvement of other perpetrators in the case.

"The results of the examination and preliminary investigation indicate that there is only one perpetrator and this was also admitted by the suspect," he said.

To investigate the case, the police have examined six witnesses, including the victim's mother, the victim's friends, and the residents who first found the victim's body.

The police have also secured a number of evidence, including the suspect's clothes, the victim's pants, surveillance camera (CCTV) footage, and other evidence related to the case.

In addition, investigators plan to conduct a psychiatric examination of the suspect as part of the ongoing investigation process.

Meanwhile, the results of the crime scene investigation (TKP) by the Inafis Team and the medical examination from the Dokpol are still awaiting final results. Investigators will also coordinate with the prosecutor's office after receiving the Letter of Notification of the Commencement of Investigation (SPDP).

According to Asfada, the security situation in the victim's and perpetrator's residential areas is still conducive. The police, together with Bhabinkamtibmas, neighborhood managers, and related elements, continue to patrol and give advice to the community to maintain order and security.

Previously, IK was suspected of raping and killing the victim in the toilet of an empty house on Tuesday (26/5) evening. The case was revealed after the victim's body was found by a resident who entered the building.
