JAKARTA - Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres said the Ukrainian conflict was at risk of getting out of control.

"But the direction of the war - the escalation and intensification we are witnessing - risks getting out of control," Guterres said at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, reported by ANTARA from Sputnik, Friday, May 29.

He also noted that currently an escalation, a ceasefire, and further diplomacy are needed.

"What is needed today is to create conditions for a just, lasting and comprehensive peace - in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and UN resolutions," the Secretary-General said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday that Ukraine's deadly attack on a college in Starobelsk (Starobilsk) in Lugansk was the final trigger that prompted Russian forces to launch a systematic attack on Ukrainian defense industrial enterprises, decision-making centers and command posts in Kiev.

The ministry urged foreign nationals, including diplomatic personnel, to leave Kyiv as soon as possible.
