JAKARTA - The police arrested the perpetrator with the initials AY (44) who stole copper cables at the Jamsostek Tower, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta.

"The perpetrator also admitted that he had taken copper cables in the generator room and carried out the theft gradually since 2023," said Mampang Prapatan Police Chief AKP Dian Purnomo, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 27.

The perpetrator's actions were never known because the new building management installed surveillance cameras in the generator room.

The perpetrator with the initials AY was recorded on the surveillance camera (CCTV) in the Menara Jamsostek generator room on May 23, 2026 at around 05.15 WIB.

The perpetrator stole the cable by cutting it with a saw, then put the cable into a bag that had been prepared.

"The perpetrator took the powergenset cable by cutting the cable line in the genset room," said Dian.

In one action, the perpetrator AY hacked 22 kilograms (kg) of copper cable, which was then sold at a price of Rp. 180 thousand per kg. The money from the crime was then used by the perpetrator to pay off debts.

"The proceeds from the sale of stolen cables are used to pay debts and daily needs," said Dian.
