Gorontalo - The Gorontalo Provincial Government (Pemprov) has tightened supervision of illegal cigarettes, which is carried out directly by the Police Pamong Praja Unit (Satpol PP) and Fire Prevention.

The Head of the Gorontalo Provincial Satpol PP and Fire Prevention, Taufik El Hakim Sidiki in Gorontalo, Saturday, said his party had tightened supervision of the circulation of illegal cigarettes and cigarette promotions around educational areas.

This was carried out as a follow-up to the confirmation of Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail.

The supervision is carried out in collaboration with the Gorontalo Customs and Excise, through integrated supervision in Bone Bolango Regency and Gorontalo Regency.

He directly led the supervision and targeted a number of kiosks, shops, and areas around the High School and Vocational School (SMA/SMK) complex.

The joint team provided education to business actors regarding the prohibition of cigarette advertising and promotion, within a radius of 250 meters from the Smoke-Free Zone (KTR), as well as monitoring the indication of illegal cigarette circulation in the community.

Taufik conveyed the affirmation of Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail that supervision of the circulation of illegal cigarettes, will continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis.

His party, together with the Gorontalo Customs and Excise, carried out this action, as a form of commitment of the local government in creating a healthy and orderly environment.

"The practice of selling illegal cigarettes not only violates the law, but also greatly harms the state and has a negative impact on public health. Therefore, we appeal to the public not to buy or sell illegal cigarettes," said Taufik.

In the implementation of supervision, the team still found the circulation of illegal cigarettes carried out by members of the community, by offering and promoting without tax tape, so that the price is much cheaper than official cigarettes in the market.

This condition is considered to be detrimental to the country in terms of tax revenue, as well as having a negative impact on efforts to control cigarette consumption, especially among students and the community.

In addition to conducting supervision, Gorontalo Customs and Excise appreciated a number of kiosks and business actors who did not sell illegal cigarettes.

This step is expected to encourage public awareness, to support the creation of a business environment that is in accordance with the rules and free from the circulation of illegal goods.

The supervision activity took place safely and smoothly and became part of a joint effort between Satpol PP and Customs, in strengthening the enforcement of local regulations.

"Especially to maintain a healthy educational environment and be free from the influence of cigarette promotion and illegal cigarette circulation," said Taufik.
