JAKARTA - A total of 57 pieces of weapons from the conflict between villages on the island of Adonara were handed over to the East Flores Police, NTT Police as an effort to maintain security and order in the area, after the conflict.

East Flores Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Octario Putra said a number of homemade weapons were handed over by residents from Narasaosina Village who had previously been in conflict with Waiburak Village, East Adonara District.

"This is a very good example of how security and peace can be built through awareness, trust, and togetherness," said Adhitya.

The handover was carried out directly by the Head of the Narasaosina Village, Januarius Tolan, together with customary and community leaders to the East Flores Police.

In addition to 57 pieces of homemade firearms, residents also handed over 49 bows, 198 arrows, and 25 homemade bullet casings.

The activity was also witnessed by Wadanyon B Pelopor Satbrimob Polda NTT AKP Antonio Cortereal, Kabag Ops Polres Flores Timur Eduardus Nuru, Kasat Intelkam Polres Flores Timur Taufan D. Adriansyah, and Kapolsek Adonara Timur IPDA Andreas Peu Lamuri.

The Police Chief said the voluntary steps of the Narasaosina community were a positive signal that residents chose a peaceful path and prioritized resolving problems through the approach of brotherhood and law.

According to him, the existence of illegal weapons in the community has the potential to trigger new conflicts and endanger the safety of residents.

"We appeal to the public who until now still possess or possess homemade firearms and other dangerous weapons to voluntarily surrender them to the police for the sake of mutual security," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Narasaosina Village, Januarius Tolan, said the handover of the weapons was a form of commitment from the community to keep the situation safe and prevent prolonged conflicts.

He emphasized that traditional figures, village governments, and the community have a shared responsibility to keep young generations from being trapped in violence.

"What we want is a peaceful situation. Brotherhood must be maintained. Therefore, the community with its own awareness handed over these weapons to the police," he said.

The steps of the Narasaosina community are considered an important momentum in rebuilding a sense of security in East Adonara after the social tensions that had occurred in the region.

Until now, the security conditions in both areas have been conducive and the community has been active as usual.
