BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police has revealed that the perpetrators of the riots during the International Labor Day or May Day in the Cikapayang-Tamansari area, Bandung City, consumed psychotropic drugs before committing acts of anarchy.

Director of Narcotics Investigation of West Java Police, Kombes Albert Raden Deddy Sulistyo Nugroho, said that of the 13 suspects who were secured, six of them were found to be positive for drug and psychotropic use.

"A few days ago we revealed the perpetrators of the riots or anarchists in Dago Cikapayang who burned the videotron and the police post there. We found them carrying psychotropic drugs of the type Alprazolam and Riklona," said Albert in Bandung, Wednesday, May 13, reported by ANTARA.

According to him, the drug type Alprazolam is a psychotropic of group IV which gives a calm effect and increases the sense of confidence for its users.

"Alprazolam gives a sense of calmness and confidence that is extraordinary, so they dare to destroy the police post, dare to challenge the officers who are on duty," he said.

Albert explained that the type of drug is different from Tramadol which is a pain reliever and is not included in the psychotropic group.

The West Java Police are also investigating the alleged involvement of a number of pharmacies that are suspected of selling hard drugs without a prescription from a specialist psychiatrist.

According to him, the prescription for psychotropic drugs such as Alprazolam should only be issued by a specialist psychiatrist, not a general practitioner.

"What we found yesterday is that there are some pharmacies that accept purchases without a prescription, or pharmacies that provide drugs with prescriptions that do not match the competence of the doctor," said Albert.
