JAKARTA - Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Maman Abdurrahman said that starting July 1, 2026, two-wheeled online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers will be treated as online micro-transportation entrepreneurs.

This policy is part of the government's efforts to strengthen the protection and empowerment of micro-business actors as well as improve the welfare of drivers in the digital transportation ecosystem.

"Alhamdulillah, starting today, a maximum commission of 8 percent applies for two-wheeled ojol and they are officially included in the category of online micro-transportation entrepreneurs," said Minister of MSME Maman Abdurrahman, quoted on Thursday, July 2.

The determination is in line with the implementation of a policy of a maximum commission cut of 8 percent for two-wheeled passenger transportation service platforms.

With this new status, ojol drivers will receive the same treatment as other micro-entrepreneurs.

They are entitled to access various protection, empowerment, and facilities programs that have been provided by the government to micro entrepreneurs.

In addition, two-wheeled ojol drivers will receive a revenue share of 92 percent of the travel fare as an implementation of Presidential Regulation Number 27 of 2026.

Previously, drivers received a commission of 80 percent, while 20 percent went to the digital platform.

Maman explained that the official announcement regarding the implementation of the commission adjustment will be made by the Ministry of Transportation.

As a micro-entrepreneur, he continued, ojol drivers are also entitled to various incentives that have been prepared by the government, including tax provisions for micro-businesses.

"Ojol is now entitled to receive all the facilities received by micro entrepreneurs. One of them, they are not taxed because their average income is still below the turnover limit of Rp. 500 million," said Maman.

The government is also preparing a stimulus package for empowerment that aims to expand the business opportunities of ojol drivers outside of their activities as online transportation partners.

The program is expected to encourage the growth of new sources of income for drivers and their families.

The stimulus prepared includes access to business financing, increasing entrepreneurial capacity and competence, as well as various assistance programs to develop productive businesses.

"They have flexible working hours. With the status as a micro-entrepreneur, they also have the opportunity to build other businesses independently with their families," said Maman.

According to him, the change in status will apply automatically according to the aspirations conveyed by various ojol driver associations.

The government will coordinate with the application company and driver associations to ensure that the transition process takes place in an orderly manner and does not disrupt operational activities in the field.

Maman emphasized that the policy is a manifestation of the government's commitment to strengthening the economy of the people, especially micro, ultra micro, and micro business actors.

"Policies that favor super micro, ultra micro, and micro business actors will continue to be accelerated so that protection and empowerment of the community can take place more optimally," he said.

Regarding the administrative aspect, Maman ensured that all processes would be carried out gradually during the transition period without hindering the activities of ojol drivers.

"The main spirit of this policy is to provide protection and empowerment to ojol brothers. Administrative requirements should not be a burden. Most importantly, the implementation of this policy runs well through coordination with all related parties," he said.

He also emphasized that the government is preparing a strong legal basis so that the policy can be implemented sustainably and maintain the balance of the entire online transportation ecosystem.

"We are interested in keeping this ecosystem conducive because it involves application companies, drivers, merchants, to UMKM players who use digital platforms. Therefore, all policies are designed to create a healthy, conducive, and equitable ecosystem," said Maman.
