JAKARTA - The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, said the Indonesian Navy would bring a rescue submarine or submerged rescue vehicle (SRV) to be paired with KRI Canopus-936.
"SRV, the ship was built in England and maybe 2027 will be present. The submarine will be on board on this ship (KRI Canopus-936)," Admiral Ali said when met at the Kolinlamil Wharf, Jakarta, Monday, May 11, reported by ANTARA.
Ali explained that the submarine serves to facilitate the KRI Canopus-936 in carrying out submarine evacuation missions and aircraft that fall into the sea.
The submarine will be equipped with underwater monitoring sensor technology, such as Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), Autonomous Surface Vehicle (AUV), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or underwater drone.
Later, in carrying out the search and rescue (SAR) mission, KRI Canopus will conduct sonar transmission to detect underwater objects to be evacuated.
After the location of the object is known, KRI Canopus will lower the SRV and several crew members on board to reach the location of the object in the sea.
Ali hopes that with the SRV, the TNI AL will be more optimal in carrying out underwater monitoring missions and rescue missions.
Based on the official statement of the Ministry of Defense, the SRV that will be owned by Indonesia is a modern rescue submarine made by the British SMP, which carries the concept of One Out, All Out.
With this concept, the SRV-F Mk.3 is designed to be able to save the entire submarine crew in one trip. This is possible because the capacity of the SRV-F Mk.3 includes 50 passengers and three crews to operate it which is the best in its class.
The SRV-F Mk.3 also has a hybrid design, allowing it to be carried using a mothership or by aircraft, and ground transportation, providing a major advantage over other systems.
