JAKARTA - US intelligence agencies believe that the new Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, has helped formulate the war and negotiation strategy with the US even though he has not appeared in public because he is still recovering from injuries.

Citing a source familiar with the US intelligence assessment, CNN said there was still uncertainty about the extent of Mojtaba Khamenei's authority in Iran's leadership structure after the US-Israeli attack killed a number of senior Iranian officials, including his father, Ali Khamenei.

US officials are believed to have believed that Mojtaba Khamenei continued to communicate through trusted messengers and direct meetings during his recovery from burns and bullet wounds.

On the other hand, Iranian officials said the leader's condition continued to improve.

As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Mazaher Hosseini, head of the protocol office of the Supreme Leader of Iran, on Friday, May 8, said Khamenei's condition was progressing positively and dispelled speculation about his health.

The report also said that US intelligence assessments concluded that Iran's military capabilities had been weakened by the US attacks, but had not been completely destroyed. Many of Iran's missile launch facilities are still operational.

CNN also reported that senior officials of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are believed to run most of the daily government amid ongoing diplomatic efforts with the US government.
