"The Internet is used as a recruitment tool. Ironically, many children and women are involved. Through RAN PE Phase II, we hope that the local government will participate in preventing this threat of terrorism," said Djamari in the Forum to Strengthen Collaboration on the Implementation of RAN PE Phase II in Jakarta, Monday (27/7).
The forum also marked the start of the implementation of RAN PE Phase II, led by the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT). This program is a national guideline in strengthening efforts to prevent violent radicalism and extremism through a collaborative and evidence-based approach.
BNPT Head Eddy Hartono explained that RAN PE Phase II integrates 111 action targets into nine strategic themes that will be carried out until 2029.
"RAN PE Phase Two is a common guideline in strengthening the national prevention system. Its success depends on the collaboration of all ministries, institutions, local governments, the education world, civil society, the media, and various other stakeholders to build community deterrence, especially the younger generation," said Eddy.
BNPT said the preparation of the RAN PE Phase II was based on an evaluation of threats throughout 2023-2025 which showed that there was still a spread of nihilistic radicalism and recruitment efforts by global terrorist networks through digital spaces targeting young people.
For this reason, the prevention strategy is directed at strengthening the resilience of families, communities, educational institutions, and digital spaces as the main fortress against the spread of extremist ideas.
The nine strategic themes in RAN PE Phase II include National Preparedness, Research and Development, Community and Family Resilience, Protection and Empowerment of Women, Children, and Youth, Strategic Communication, Media and Electronic Systems, Radicalization, Human Rights and Good Governance, Witness and Victim Protection, and International Partnership.
The forum was attended by representatives of 70 ministries and agencies, local governments, academics, civil society organizations, and international partners as a form of joint commitment to strengthening community resilience and preventing the development of violent extremism leading to terrorism.
