Police Investigate the Cause of the Fire of the BPK Member's House, Work Room on the 4th Floor Burned Out

JAKARTA - The police are still investigating the cause of the fire that occurred at the house of member IV of the Indonesian Financial Supervisory Board (BPK), Haerul Saleh, in the Jagakarsa area, Friday, May 8, 2026. The most damaged part is on the fourth floor which is known as the victim's workspace.

The South Jakarta Metro Police Chief, I Putu Yuni, said the identification team together with the National Police Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) had carried out an investigation of the crime scene to reveal the exact cause of the fire.

"The identification team together with Puslabfor Polri has carried out the crime scene. From there, it will be matched between the testimony of witnesses and the evidence and evidence found," said Putu at the scene.

According to him, even though the video that circulated only showed a thick cloud of smoke, a number of witnesses admitted that they had seen a fire when the incident occurred. This testimony was also strengthened by firefighters who arrived at the location.

"From the testimony of the witness, there was indeed a fire. It is impossible to have smoke without fire," he said.

Putu explained that the workspace on the fourth floor was the most affected area with damage levels reaching around 80 percent. Meanwhile, the lower floor of the house was reported not to have suffered significant damage.

"Meanwhile, about 80 percent at the top, namely his work area. If the lower floor is not affected," he explained.

Police are now investigating the possibility of flammable materials at the scene. A number of evidence from the fourth floor will be taken to the forensic laboratory for further examination.

"All the items on top will be taken to the Labfor to be examined for their contents, whether there are flammable materials and so on," concluded Putu.
