JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is preparing Jalan HR Rasuna Said as a new location for a car free day (CFD). The road in the Kuningan area will be an alternative to the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor, which has been the center of vehicle-free activities.

This plan was first marked on May 10, in conjunction with the implementation of the Governor's Instruction regarding waste sorting and the series of inauguration of the 499th anniversary of Jakarta.

"At the same time, it marks that Rasuna Said will later be prepared to become a Car Free Day like Sudirman-Thamrin," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday, May 6.

With the addition of CFD locations, the DKI Provincial Government wants to provide more public space options for residents to be active while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

"So that the people of Jakarta have many choices, including in time I will announce a change in the clock for car free day and hopefully the people of Jakarta will be healthier," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the implementation of the Governor's Instruction regarding waste sorting, Pramono revealed that the DKI Provincial Government is planning to build a waste processing facility into energy in the area.

"I have agreed to build it immediately for PLTSa, a waste-to-energy power plant," he said.

In addition to PLTSa, this area will also be used for processing fuel from waste (refuse derived fuel/RDF). With this scheme, Rasuna Said is not only a public space, but also part of the city's waste management system.

"So that way there will be three activities, for RDF Bantargebang, the second for fuel, the third to become energy," he explained.

Pramono mentioned the large amount of waste in Jakarta that had been piling up for a long time. He said that the waste reserve in Bantargebang reached 55 million tons and needed to be immediately addressed.

According to him, the development of waste processing facilities into energy is one solution to reduce methane emissions while reducing the burden on landfills.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government targets the construction of three PLTSa facilities in Jakarta. Meanwhile, the RDF facility in Rorotan is asked to continue to increase its capacity while still paying attention to the environmental impact for residents around it.

"I ask that it be gradually improved but that the infrastructure be improved so that it does not have an impact on the smell and breathing of residents," he added.
