Fire at the Mediterranean Apartment is suspected to be caused by a short circuit in the electrical panel.

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said that the fire that hit one of the Mediterania Apartment buildings in South Tanjung Duren, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, on Thursday morning was allegedly caused by a short circuit in the electrical panel.

"According to Mr. Ajis's statement, the apartment safety officer, there was a power outage in the floor panel of the basement. Then, the fire alarm sounded and the officer reported to the nearest fire department," said Head of the DKI Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, April 30.

He said that there were nine residents who were injured and five people were referred to a health facility due to the fire.

Of the five people referred, some experienced shortness of breath and some others had broken bones.

Until now, officers are still carrying out the process of evacuating apartment residents.

"Meanwhile, the cooling process and the process of emitting smoke from the room are still ongoing," said Isnawa.

Until 12.23 WIB, there were 87 residents who were trapped inside the burning building, but were successfully evacuated by officers.

Meanwhile, two people are reported to still be inside the apartment building and are in the process of evacuation.

Previously, ANTARA's monitoring at the location at 09.25 WIB, the evacuation stairs had been installed in stages from the ground floor to the sixth floor of the building, and one by one the trapped residents were lowered.

Residents who were evacuated were tied with ropes so that they would not fall down the stairs.

At the information post, officers listed the residents who had been evacuated and the residents who were still trapped inside the burning building.
