JAKARTA - PT PAM Jaya has started opening the door to foreign investment to accelerate the target of 100 percent drinking water service in Jakarta. One of them is by exploring cooperation with Bin Zayed International.
This exploration is marked by the signing of a nondisclosure agreement (NDA) as an initial stage before entering into technical discussions and potential investments.
This step is a continuation of communication after the meeting of the Bin Zayed International with the Governor of DKI Jakarta at the City Hall. Now, the discussion is beginning to be directed at concrete opportunities, especially the development of the drinking water supply system (SPAM).
PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin emphasized that collaboration is the key to pursuing the big target of clean water services in Jakarta.
"The Governor's and the Deputy Governor's instructions are very clear, the fulfillment of basic services for residents must be carried out seriously, measured, and open to collaboration. PAM JAYA has a big target to reach 100 percent coverage of drinking water services in Jakarta. Therefore, we need to build cooperation with partners who have capacity, experience, technology, and long-term commitment," said Arief in his statement, Tuesday, April 18.
In addition to expanding the scope of services, PAM Jaya also faces a classic problem, namely the high level of water loss or nonrevenue water (NRW). This condition is considered more complex because of the characteristics of Jakarta as a dense city with underground utility networks that are stacked on top of each other.
"Reducing NRW is one of PAM Jaya's major tasks. In Jakarta, the challenge is not simple because of the density of buildings, complex utility networks, and increasing service needs. Therefore, collaboration with various parties, including Bin Zayed International, is important to see the possibility of relevant technology support, investment, and international experience for Jakarta," he said.
Not only the drinking water sector, Bin Zayed International is also eyeing other strategic infrastructure projects in Jakarta, including the potential involvement in the construction of the Giant Sea Wall. This interest is in line with Jakarta's need for large-scale infrastructure to support the status of a global city.
PAM Jaya itself has previously opened communication with a number of other international partners, such as from Turkey and Switzerland, to explore technology transfer to improve service quality.
Arief emphasized that the signing of the NDA was not just a formality, but a gateway to ensure that cooperation was carried out with clear governance.
"The signing of this NDA is not just an administrative formality. This is a gateway to ensure that every process of cooperation is carried out professionally, accountable, and based on mature studies. PAM Jaya will continue to maintain the principle of prudence, good governance, and the interests of Jakarta residents as the main priority," he said.
