JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) said that his party would immediately expand the collaboration model for slum areas in Menteng Tenggulun, South Jakarta, to other major cities in Indonesia.

The Minister of Public Housing stated that the area arrangement program in Menteng Tenggulun will be used as a pilot model to be implemented in various major cities in Indonesia.

"So this is a pilot, a pilot, after this is good, we will make it in several other cities in Indonesia," said the Minister of the COVID-19 Response when reviewing the progress of renovating 152 houses and revitalizing slums in Menteng Tenggulun, South Jakarta, Friday, April 24.

He assessed that a collaborative approach involving many parties was able to accelerate the handling of slums without relying solely on government funding.

The success of the program shows that the synergy between various elements can produce significant changes in a relatively short time in a densely populated area.

Maruarar said a number of major cities had been included in the development plan for a similar program to expand the positive impact of zoning.

"The next target area after here are big cities, namely Bandung, Medan. We are ready for big areas," said Ara.

According to him, each region will later adjust the concept to local characteristics, but still prioritize the principle of collaboration and mutual cooperation without using the state budget.

He emphasized the involvement of various parties in the renovation program of 152 houses and the revitalization of the slum area in Menteng Tenggulun, as the key to success, ranging from communities, the private sector, to professional organizations that contribute actively.

"We collaborate with the Indonesian Architects Association, there are from PNM who take care of the garbage and empower the family economy, Astra. I count there are (about) eight parties involved," said Ara.

The program also shows that solutions to slum areas do not always have to rely on large budgets, but can be done through cross-sectoral cooperation.

Maruarar is optimistic that the model can be widely replicated because it is flexible and able to effectively adjust the needs of each region.

He hopes that with the expansion of the program, more slums can be arranged into a more decent, healthy, and productive environment for the community.

The renovation of the uninhabitable house in Menteng Tenggulun, South Jakarta, is targeted to be completed by mid-June through a collaborative effort.

"The target for the completion of the renovation of this uninhabitable house in Menteng Tenggulun is targeted for June 15 (2026)," said the Minister of PKP.
