Chairman Of The Bali KPU Asks For The Schedule Of The 2024 Presidential Election To Be Revised Because It Coincides With Galungan Day

DENPASAR- The General Election Commission (KPU) of Bali Province, asked to revise the schedule for the Presidential Election (Pilpres) to the DPR, the government, including the election organizers.

The reason is February 28, 2024 which was agreed to coincide with Galungan Day for Balinese Hindus.

"It turns out that the 28th is Galungan. So we suggest not the 28th, no one will want to be the organizer and no one will vote because it's a big holiday," said Bali KPU chairman, I Dewa Agung Gede Lidartawan, in Denpasar , Bali, Monday, June 7th.

Lidartawan believes that the request to change the date of the presidential election will be accepted.

"I believe and believe that Jakarta has no reason not to grant it. Maybe it was submitted a week or two before," he said.

According to him, the simultaneous election on February 28, 2024 is still an agreement in a working meeting at Commission II of the DPR or is not final.

In addition, his party has also submitted this request to the KPU RI and Commission II of the DPR.

"(February 28, 2024) it's just an agreement that hasn't been decided yet so it can be changed and I'm sure they will fight for it," he added.

He hopes that the schedule for the presidential election will be moved forward two weeks before February 28, 2024 or February 14 to be exact.

"Then, let's choose with love. It's better and after choosing don't vent emotions because it's based on Valentine's Day, it's easy for us to socialize. That's good," said Lidartawan.

Previously, the joint working team for the preparation of the 2024 General Election and Regional Head Elections had agreed on a schedule for the 2024 General Election/Pilkada, Thursday, June 3.

The joint working team consists of Commission II of the DPR, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the General Elections Commission (KPU), the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), and the Election Organizing Honorary Council (DKPP). The team discussed the design of the 2024 General Election proposed by the KPU.

"At the meeting of the first session, Thursday night, June 3, several things were agreed. First, the D-Day of the 2024 Simultaneous Election is Wednesday, February 28, 2024," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR Luqman Hakim, Friday, June 4.

"The two D-days of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Head Elections are Wednesday, November 27, 2024," he continued.

Luqman explained other points agreed in the joint working team meeting. Namely, the stages of the 2024 Simultaneous Elections begin 25 months before the D-Day of voting, in January 2022.
