JAKARTA - The TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto will deploy additional personnel to assist efforts to control the significantly increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Kudus, Central Java, and Bangkalan, East Java.

This step was taken to make the implementation of Micro-Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) effective in the two areas.

"We are deploying members of the TNI and Police in the areas where we carry out PPKM with the addition of these personnel," Hadi said in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, June 7.

He said these additional personnel would assist in tracing or tracing COVID-19 close contacts in the community. This includes helping the shortage of health workers if necessary.

"The TNI/Police mobilize health workers in hospitals to be able to provide services. So that the BOR (Bed Occupation Rate) in the hospital can immediately be depressed and go down", he said.

"Including whether there is a shortage of health workers in each hospital in each district, we will add and also help in isolation places built by the district and municipality", added Hadi.

In addition, these additional personnel will also monitor the community in implementing the health protocol. Because, although many people have received the COVID-19 vaccine, the implementation of 3M, namely maintaining distance, wearing masks, and washing hands must still be carried out.

Previously reported, Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the increase in COVID-19 cases in a number of areas had increased significantly. There are two areas mentioned by him, namely Kudus, Central Java and Bangkalan, East Java.

The significant increase in cases in these two regions is evident due to the number of COVID-19 patients being hospitalized.

"In Kudus, before the hospital was filled to 40 then in the last 1.5 weeks it rose quite high to 350. Likewise in Bangkalan, which previously had 10 isolation beds filled now in 1.5 weeks it rose to 70 to 80", said Budi.

He then explained, this happened because of community activities in the two areas. "Specifically, this cluster is because it is a holy pilgrimage area, while in Bangkalan there are many migrant workers who return from neighboring countries", he said.
