BOGOR - IPB University has imposed a one-semester suspension sanction on 16 students who were proven to be involved in a case of sexual harassment through an online chat group.
The Rector of IPB University, Alim Setiawan Slamet, emphasized that the sanctions were part of the campus' commitment to enforcing rules and creating a safe and dignified academic environment.
"We do not tolerate any form of sexual violence. IPB is committed to strengthening the prevention and handling of cases in a systematic, transparent, and accountable manner," said Alim in his statement, Monday, April 20.
He emphasized that the campus sided with the victims by ensuring their protection, recovery, and fulfillment of their rights without compromise.
This case was revealed after an official report was received by the campus on April 14, 2026. The harassment incident itself occurred in 2024 and involved inappropriate communication with female students through a chat group.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FTT) of IPB University, Slamet Budijanto, said that the faculty together with the Office of Campus Security, Safety, and Protection Management (KMKKPK) had conducted an examination of the reporter and related parties since April 15.
"A total of 16 students were identified as involved in violations of campus life discipline and sexual harassment," said Slamet.
Based on the results of the examination and evidence collected, the campus imposed a suspension sanction for one semester on April 17, 2026.
Slamet emphasized that the imposition of sanctions is not only aimed at enforcing rules, but also to provide a deterrent effect and to be an ethical learning for all academicians.
"This is part of the effort to build a campus culture that upholds integrity and mutual respect," he said.
IPB University also ensures the strengthening of the mechanism for handling cases of sexual violence, including victim protection and the involvement of student elements, to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.
