Lebak - The Lebak Police, Banten, are investigating a case of alleged fraud in a fake umrah travel that caused losses of up to Rp728 million.
"We have received reports of losses due to the cheap umrah travel scam," said Lebak Police Chief AKBP Herfio Zaki, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, April 20.
He emphasized that the police were conducting a professional investigation to uncover the case, including hunting down the perpetrators.
The fraud case was allegedly carried out by an umrah travel agency named Omsu Travel which was headed by someone with the initials OS and allegedly did not have an official permit.
The number of victims who have reported is around 35 people with a total loss of Rp728 million, with a deposit value ranging from Rp20 million to Rp30 million per person.
However, the number of victims is suspected to be more than 200 people spread across a number of sub-districts, including Cimarga, Bojongmanik, and Gunungkencana.
"We hope that this case of fraud in Umrah can be revealed immediately and the perpetrators can be arrested," he said.
Meanwhile, one of the victims, Didin, a resident of Lebak Regency, admitted that he had deposited Rp. 23 million, while his wife Rp. 20 million, for the departure of the umrah which was scheduled for January 27, 2026. However, until now, the departure has not been realized.
"We were originally promised to leave in November 2025, then back to December to January 2026, but until now there is no clarity," he said.
