BATAM - The Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda Kepri) has named a member of the Bintara, Bripda AS, as a suspect in a case of alleged abuse in the Bintara mess against fellow police officers which led to one victim dying.

"So far, only one member has been designated as a suspect, namely Bripda AS. However, we are still investigating the possibility of the involvement of other personnel," said Head of Professional and Security (Propam) of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Eddwi Kurniyanto in Batam, Tuesday, April 14, reported by ANTARA.

He said the Kapolda Kepri also mourned the incident and emphasized that the case would be processed to its completion.

"On behalf of the Police Chief, we express our deepest condolences to the victims' families. We promise to process it firmly and I will investigate it thoroughly until we find out who the perpetrators are involved," he said.

He explained that the incident occurred on Monday (13/4) evening at around 23.00 WIB at the mess or barracks of the Junior Officer in a simple rental apartment (rusunawa).

"The victim is a member of the Ditsamapta Polda Kepri, namely Bripda NS who died, and another victim, Bripda JB, who is currently undergoing a visa," he said.

According to Eddwi, the incident began when the suspect called the two victims with the excuse of an alleged violation for not carrying out the curve activity (community service).

"Both victims were called to a room in the barracks to be asked about the curve. That's when the persecution was carried out by his seniors," he said.

From the results of the initial examination, he said, the persecution was carried out without using tools, a blank stick.

"For witnesses, there are eight personnel that we asked for information, but the suspect is only one person," he said.

Until now, no personal motive has been found between the suspect and the victim.

"Meanwhile, the witnesses we secured at Propam, the Paminal Section (Internal Security of the National Police) for further investigation and development. Later we will investigate whether there is another motive besides not implementing the curve," said the Head of Propam.

In addition to the criminal process handled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation, the North Sumatra Police will also take action in accordance with the code of ethics through Propam.

"We from Propam will process it in accordance with the code of ethics, and for his sentence we have reported it to the Criminal Investigation Unit," said Eddwi.

The victim's body has been taken to Bhayangkara Hospital since it was found on Monday (13/4) evening for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. However, until this afternoon, there has been no statement from the hospital's medical doctor.

The North Sumatra Regional Police also ensured that they would provide assistance to the victim's family. "We will definitely provide financial assistance, we will take care of the victim's body," he said.
