Cyclists Increase By 74 Percent, DKI Provincial Government Has Not Thought Of Opening Additional Special Routes

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Transportation Agency said the number of cyclists increased by 74 percent on the Kampung Melayu-Tanah Abang Non-Toll Flyover (JLNT). This increase is based on data from two trials.

"Twice in a row, the road hike trial has resulted in a significant increase in the number of cyclists crossing this area by 74 percent," said Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo to reporters, Sunday, June 6.

Although there is an increase in the number of cyclists, said Syafrin, his party has not thought about opening other bicycle lanes. The DKI Provincial Government is still waiting for developments.

"Regarding other arenas, other tracks, of course while seeing how the public's interest is related to the use of the JLNT track as a road bike area," said Syafrin.

"Secondly, we will calculate the traffic volume for cyclists under certain conditions when the cyclist traffic on the JLNT is saturated or nearing saturation, so of course we can look for other alternative locations," he continued.

In addition, the JLNT Kampung Melayu-Tanah Abang route has not been designated as a permanent road bike route. Currently, DKI Dishub is still reviewing various related matters.

"After the regulations are issued, it will be announced what the road bike path will look like at JLNT Casablanca," he said.
