Lampung Police Investigate Gold Shop to Store Illegal Mining Results

Lampung - The Lampung Regional Police stated that they would continue to investigate a number of gold shops suspected of storing the results of illegal gold mines in Way Kanan.

"The development of the illegal gold mining case in Way Kanan Regency is still being followed up by examining a number of gold shops in this province," said the Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Lampung Police, Commissioner General of Police Heri Rusyamandi Bandarlampung, Thursday, April 9, reported by ANTARA.

He said investigators had uncovered a flow of illegal gold mining results that were sold to a number of gold shops in Lampung. In fact, the flow of gold even went to Tangerang and Bekasi.

"One of the things we have done is the JSR store. Then there are five other stores that are in the process of being deepened," he said.

"So far, the police have named three people as additional suspects who played a role as gold collectors from illegal miners. They are suspected of buying gold from illegal mining activities, then selling it back to gold shops," he said.

Heri said the disclosure of this case would not stop at the field perpetrators, but the Lampung Police are trying to uncover who the main financier behind the illegal mine is.

"Whoever is behind it, including the financier, we will reveal in detail. Currently, the investigation process is still ongoing and the police have promised to provide further developments to the public in the near future," he said.

The Lampung Police Special Criminal Investigation Directorate has succeeded in dismantling the practice of unlicensed gold mining (PETI) which operates in the Way Kanan Regency area.

In the action, the police secured 24 people, 14 of whom have been named as suspects.
