JAKARTA - Police have scheduled an examination of the building owner and foreman of a multi-storey building project on Jalan TB Simatupang, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, following the death of four workers due to allegedly inhaling dangerous gas in a water storage tank.
The head of the Jagakarsa Police, Kompol Nurma Dewi, said that an examination of the parties concerned would be carried out in the near future to investigate the possibility of criminal elements in the incident.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026 at the location of the multi-storey building project. Four workers were found dead in a water storage pit, while three others survived despite having suffered from shortness of breath.
Nurma explained that the incident began when workers were ordered to drain the water reservoir. One of the workers fell into the hole while opening the cover.
"The victim was helped by his colleagues, but without using safety equipment," he said.
The rescue attempt was fatal. A colleague who was about to help fell into a hole about three meters deep.
During the evacuation process, witnesses felt an abnormal condition inside the hole. The air felt hot and stuffy around the shelter.
The hole is about six meters in size with a depth of three meters and a width of three meters, divided into two parts that were previously closed and were to be cleaned.
The four victims who died were Yana Nugraha (32), Mawi (62), Tatang Sonjaya (63), and Muhamad Fauzi (19). Meanwhile, three workers who survived, namely Ujib (41), Ahmad Jaelani (37), and Sunar (63), had shortness of breath.
All the victims have been evacuated to hospital. Police suspect the workers inhaled dangerous gas from inside the shelter hole.
