Police Arrest Motor Sales Fraudster Posing as TV Crew in Mampang

JAKARTA - Police have uncovered a case of fraud in the sale and purchase of motorcycles by posing as a private television crew. The perpetrator with the initials TL (34) was arrested during the process of handing over the money for the purchase of the motorcycle in the Mampang area.

The head of the Mampang Police, AKP Dian Pornomo, said the arrest was made after his party received a report regarding the alleged fraud of motor vehicle transactions through the marketplace. The victim had previously communicated with the perpetrator via WhatsApp and agreed to meet at the scene.

"After the appointment at the crime scene, when the money was handed over, we immediately secured the perpetrator and the evidence to the Mampang Police for further processing," said Dian, Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

In carrying out his actions, the perpetrator used a rather cunning modus. TL wore the uniform of one of the private television stations to convince the victim not to be suspicious. He also offered a motorcycle complete with documents such as BPKB and STNK. However, the results of the examination revealed that the vehicle documents were suspected to be fake.

"He used the uniform of a private TV station to convince the victim that he was not a criminal," he added.

From the hands of the perpetrator, the police confiscated one unit of black Yamaha NMAX, one unit of Oppo A6X mobile phone, cash of Rp. 2.4 million, television uniforms, and vehicle documents.

Based on the results of the interim interrogation, the perpetrator has carried out his actions twice, namely in Depok and in Mampang.

"Currently we are still conducting intensive examinations. What is clear is that the perpetrator has acted twice," explained Dian.

The police are also still investigating the origin of the fake documents used by the perpetrators, including the source and location of the forgery.

For his actions, TL was charged with Article 492 of the Criminal Code and Article 392 of the Criminal Code. The police appealed to the public to be more vigilant against similar fraud methods and immediately report to the 110 call center if they find anything suspicious.
