JAKARTA - The government has officially enacted Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP Tunas) starting Saturday, March 28, 2026. This regulation confirms the state's commitment to tightening child protection in the digital space, including against negligent platforms.
Member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Lestari Moerdijat, reminded that the presence of this rule must be followed by the involvement of all parties, not only the government.
"Child protection in the digital space is not just a policy. It is a must. The state is present, all parties must also take responsibility," said Lestari in his statement, Sunday, March 29.
He assessed that the current situation shows the urgency of child protection is increasing as access to the internet increases among young children. Data from the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (KPPPA) notes that 9 out of 10 children aged 5 years and above in Indonesia are already actively using the internet.
This condition is considered to have a direct impact on the child's growth and development process, especially if it is not balanced with adequate supervision and education.
On the other hand, data from the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision (Ditjen Wasdigi) shows a significant increase in child pornography cases. In four years, the number of cases increased from 986,648 in 2020 to 1,450,403 cases in 2024 or increased by almost 48 percent.
Lestari emphasized that regulation alone is not enough to answer the question. According to him, strengthening digital literacy in the family environment is the key.
"Digital literacy must be the main need of the family. Parents must accompany their children. Schools and communities must move together. Otherwise, the digital space will continue to be a real threat to the future of the nation," said Rerie.
He also emphasized that child protection in the digital space is part of efforts to maintain the quality of the next generation.
"There is no room for negligence in facing this challenge. Firm, consistent, and responsible are a must to realize a safe digital space, for the birth of a generation of future competitors," he concluded.
