GARUT - A joint Search And Rescue (SAR) team rescued four tourists who were swept away by waves while swimming at Karangpapak Beach, Garut Regency, West Java, Monday, and immediately received medical treatment to recover their health.
Head of the Water and Air Police Unit (Satpolairud) of the Garut Police, Iptu Aep Saprudin, confirmed that four tourists from West Bandung Regency were successfully rescued from the danger of waves at Karangpapak Beach, Cikelet District.
"The four of them were dragged by the waves into the middle of the sea, causing panic," said Aep as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 23.
He said that the tourist destination conditions on the south coast, including Karangpapak Beach, were quite crowded with tourists who filled the Eid al-Fitr holiday.
Beach visitors, he said, came from various areas, including four tourists who were swept away by the waves, namely Rizky (17), Yuda (18), Farel (17), and Adril (18) were tourists from West Bandung.
He said the incident began when the four tourists swam as usual, but unexpectedly one of them was carried away by the waves, then his three friends were also carried away by the waves.
"At the same time, Briptu Bagus police officers who were on patrol around the location immediately ran to the scene," he said.
He said that the efforts of the police personnel together with others succeeded in evacuating the four victims from the impact of the sea current, then brought them to the mainland.
"Thanks to the alertness of our members and residents, the four victims who were dragged by the waves were successfully evacuated safely," he said.
He said that the incident was a warning for other tourists to be more careful and alert to the potential waves that could drag them into the middle of the ocean.
A number of Satpolairud personnel and other agencies, he said, are always ready to anticipate and provide assistance if anyone has a maritime accident.
"We also continue to patrol and appeal to tourists not to swim too far," he said.
