Ciliwung Floods, Residential Areas in Balekambang Kramat Jati Flooded Up to 1 Meter

JAKARTA - The high intensity of rain that has hit the Jakarta area since the afternoon has caused the overflow of water from the Ciliwung River to submerge a number of residential areas and roads in Balekambang, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta (Jaktim) to flooding.

"The water rose very quickly, up to chest height, one meter there. The items I could move to the second floor immediately, but there were also those who didn't have time because I live alone," said one of the residents of RT 01, Marsiyem (39) when he was met at the location, Saturday, March 21 reported by ANTARA.

Marsiyem said that the water began to enter his house around 16.00 WIB. Within three hours, the water level rose rapidly to more than one meter.

Initially, said Marsiyem, he did not know for sure the cause of the flood, but heard information that the water overflowed from the embankment that was unable to withstand the flow of river water.

As a result of the flood, Marsiyem was forced to save his important belongings independently.

A number of furniture such as mattresses and cabinets could not be moved so that they were submerged in water.

"The overflow of water from the Ciliwung River, if I hear it, it says. So it's already submerged in this stuff," said Marsiyem.

Water that flowed from the river due to its inability to accommodate the high water discharge also flooded residential areas in RT 01, 02, and 10 RW 01.

Water levels in the area vary, ranging from 30 centimeters to one meter.

Residents whose houses are at higher points began cleaning up the remaining mud brought by the flood.

Cleaning activities are carried out in a gotong royong to accelerate environmental recovery.

Not only residential areas, flooding also occurred on the Bogor Highway, specifically in the Hek intersection area, Kramat Jati. The water level on the road reached about 50 centimeters.

This condition caused a long traffic jam from Cililitan to Pasar Rebo, and vice versa.

A number of vehicles were forced to slow down, and some even chose to find alternative routes to avoid flooding.

The water conditions in several points have gradually receded, but residents are still asked to be alert to the potential for subsequent flooding if the rain returns with high intensity.
