Muhammadiyah Chairman Haedar Nashir reminds the nation's elite to be an example of maintaining unity

JAKARTA - The Chairman of the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, appealed to the nation's elite to set an example in maintaining unity in the midst of differences in determining the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr.

"We don't need to sharpen differences, let alone find excuses for ourselves by blaming others. Both in the context of kinship and government, all parties must refrain," he said when delivering the Idul Fitri prayer sermon at the Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) in Yogyakarta, Friday, March 20. reported by ANTARA.

He invited religious figures and the nation's elite to avoid statements or utterances that could complicate the atmosphere in the community.

According to the professor of sociology, Eid al-Fitr needs to be lived with the focus of worship and clarity of soul and mind.

"Celebrate Eid al-Fitr with piety, both those who celebrate on March 20 and 21, even those who are ahead, so that we are not caught up in the desire for differences that actually tear apart unity," he said.

He is optimistic that the Indonesian nation has maturity so that the differences in the determination of religious holidays are treated reasonably and do not become a source of conflict.

Haedar Nashir also hopes that in the future the Islamic world will have a single global calendar to minimize differences in the determination of religious holidays.

"In the future, God willing, the differences can be minimized, if there is openness of heart and mind, and based on high science," he said.

Haedar emphasized the importance of the example of the nation's elite in maintaining unity, peace, and tolerance while encouraging the progress of the nation and the nation.

"Give an example to the people that the elite are able to be a good example in creating unity, peace, tolerance, and progress. We still have many shortcomings that require hard work from all components of the nation," he said.
