JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has recorded that as many as 1,518 temporary shelters (huntara) for residents affected by flash floods in Gayo Lues Regency, Aceh, have been completed by Tuesday, March 10. This achievement is equivalent to about 88 percent of the target of building 1,713 huntara units in the region.
With this achievement, BNPB Head Lieutenant General Suharyanto hopes that all hunters in Gayo Lues can be completed immediately so that the affected residents can immediately leave the evacuation tent. Thus, the public is expected to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in a more decent residence.
"We ensure that by the 2026 Eid, for Gayo Lues Regency, there will be no more people in tents," said Suharyanto, as quoted from his statement, Thursday, March 12.
Furthermore, he said BNPB would also continue to accompany families who are still waiting for the huntara construction process. During this period, residents will be placed in more suitable locations, such as the government's work training building.
"So that all affected people in Gayo Lues Regency can enjoy, can follow the celebration of Eid al-Fitr better and more wisely," he added.
Since the flash flood and landslide disasters hit the Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra regions at the end of November, the government has continued to accelerate the recovery and rehabilitation process in the affected areas. One of the efforts undertaken is the construction of huntara with a communal housing concept so that residents can immediately move from evacuation tents to more decent homes.
One of the locations for the construction of the huntara in Gayo Lues is in Agusen Village, Blangkejeren District. Currently, the communal housing complex, which is inhabited by around 150 families (KK), has stood up and is neatly arranged, with residents who have started to return to their daily activities.
In addition to Agusen Village, the huntara construction was also carried out in Rigeb Village, Dabun Gelang District.
At the location, 133 households have occupied a communal housing complex equipped with basic facilities such as water and electricity supplies. Each housing unit is also equipped with a bathroom and toilet.
Suharyanto explained that families who have just occupied the huntara will receive basic food and non-food needs to meet their needs for 10 days. This assistance is given to help meet the basic needs of residents before they receive life assurance assistance from the central government.
"Families who occupy the huntara will be given assistance by BNPB in the form of equipment and food for 10 days since they entered the huntara," said Suharyanto.
