JAKARTA - The Post-disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) Task Force for Sumatra reported that 80 percent of the disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra (North Sumatra), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) were free of mud.

Spokesperson for the Post-disaster PRR Task Force for Sumatra, Amran, said the mud cleaning process is an important part of the post-disaster rehabilitation phase because it is directly related to the recovery of community activities, including in residential areas, public facilities, and road access.

"Cleaning the mud is part of the post-disaster rehabilitation phase which aims to restore community access and ensure public facilities can return to function," Amran said in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.

Based on the latest data from the PRR Task Force as of Monday (9/3), out of a total of 508 locations that were targeted for mud cleaning in the three affected provinces, 406 locations have been successfully cleaned or about 80 percent. Meanwhile, 102 other locations are still in the process of being handled.

Aceh province has the most cleaning locations. Of the total 455 locations that were the target of cleaning, 366 locations have been completed. 89 other locations are still being cleaned.

Meanwhile, in North Sumatra Province, cleaning was carried out in 24 locations. Of these, 11 locations have been completed and 13 other locations are still in the process of being worked on.

Meanwhile, in West Sumatra Province, the mud cleaning process has been completed. A total of 29 affected locations have been successfully cleaned or reached 100 percent progress.

Amran also gave an example of a number of educational facilities in East Aceh that had been completely cleaned, both inside the building and in the surrounding area.

"Some schools such as SD Lokop and SMP in Lokop District, East Aceh, for example, have been 100 percent cleaned, both inside the room and in the school environment," he said.
