Viral Police Beat When Breaking Up a Fight in Kendal, 2 Young Men Arrested

KENDAL - Police arrested two young men suspected of beating a police officer during a patrol in Kaliwungu District, Kendal Regency, Central Java, Sunday, March 8. This arrest was made after a viral video circulated on social media showing the beating of an officer while resolving a fight.

Kendal Police Chief AKBP Hendry Susanto Sianipar said the two perpetrators who were arrested were MH (20), a resident of Dukuh Gambiran, Sumberejo Village, and AF (18), a resident of Dukuh Kandangan, Sarirejo Village. Both are currently undergoing an examination at the Kaliwungu Police.

Hendry explained that the incident began when the police carried out a routine joint patrol every Sunday night in the Kaliwungu area. When the patrol took place, the officers received a report of a fight in the community.

Members who came to the location then tried to defuse the commotion. However, in the process of defusing, a number of young people actually beat the police officers who were on duty.

"The viral video on social media is true. Members came to settle a fight, but instead became victims of beatings," said Hendry, Monday, March 9.

He confirmed that two members of the Kaliwungu Police were victims in the incident. One of them is the Kaliwungu Police Chief who in the amateur video was seen being chased by a number of young people and was also a victim of beating.

Currently, the two perpetrators have been secured at the Kaliwungu Police to undergo further examination. The police are still conducting intensive examinations of the two to investigate the incident.

In addition, the police are still waiting for the results of the follow-up investigation to determine the possibility of the involvement of other parties in the incident.

Meanwhile, the two police officers who were victims have received medical treatment and are in good condition. The police confirmed that the legal process would run according to procedure and the results would be made public.
