BOGOR - The Bogor Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office has secured 13 foreign nationals (WNA) from Japan who are suspected of being involved in online scamming practices. The action was carried out in an immigration surveillance operation in the Babakan Madang area, Bogor Regency, Monday, March 2 night.

This operation began with the intensive observation of the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team (Inteldakim) for several days against suspicious activities in a residential area in Sentul. Officers suspected that there were activities involving a number of foreign residents with a closed operational pattern.

During the raids at three different houses, officers secured 13 Japanese nationals. During document checks at the location, one of them could not show the original passport when asked by officers. The foreigners are suspected of carrying out online fraud practices targeting victims in their home country, Japan.

In addition to securing the suspects, officers also seized a number of evidence items suspected of being related to cybercrime activities. The evidence includes attributes resembling Japanese police uniforms and identification badges, dozens of mobile phones and computer devices, signal amplifiers and scramblers, as well as various other supporting electronic devices.

Head of the Bogor Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office, Ritus Ramadhana, emphasized that this action was part of the Immigration's commitment to maintaining the rule of law and preventing the misuse of residence permits by foreigners.

"Supervision of foreigners is our duty and function to ensure that every foreign citizen in the territory of Indonesia complies with applicable legal provisions. In this case, we took action in a professional and measured manner after going through a thorough supervision process," said Ritus in his statement, Wednesday, March 4.

He added that his party would not tolerate any illegal activities carried out by foreign citizens in Indonesian territory.

Meanwhile, the Acting Director General of Immigration, Yuldi Yusman, stated that his party would conduct an in-depth examination and coordinate with related institutions.

"Our officers will investigate the examination of the person concerned and coordinate with related agencies, including the police and representatives of the relevant countries, if there are wider elements of criminal acts," said Yuldi.

Currently, the 13 Japanese foreign nationals have been taken to the Bogor Class I Immigration Office for an intensive examination and the making of an Examination Report (BAP). The focus of the examination includes allegations of abuse of residence permits in accordance with Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration and deepening of allegations of cross-border fraud.
