JAKARTA - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is drafting a Minister's Circular (SE) regarding the implementation of the New Student Admission System (SPMB) in post-disaster areas, especially in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, to minimize the potential for students to drop out of school.
"Maybe later there will be some adjustments to policies. We are drafting a circular letter from the Minister as well as regarding the acceptance of disaster-affected students," said Representative of the National Secretariat of the Disaster-Safe Education Unit (SPAB) of the Ministry of Education, Jamjam Muzaki, reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 3.
He explained that in the new school year in the disaster area, it is not impossible that there will be some parents who decide to move their children to a new school.
As for the transfer, he said, it was not possible to include the transfer of classes to a new level.
"Well, we also arrange it so that it is easier to make mutations, to make transfers, including how the mechanism for receiving schools affected by disasters, including the SPMB later," he added.
Therefore, he continued, the capacity policy at SPMB in disaster-affected areas can follow the capacity in the previous year, considering that there will be schools that have classrooms that are still usable, but lack the number of study groups (rombel).
According to him, the learning process in the first year after the disaster will also be different.
Jamjam said there were students who would feel the school with the new building, but there would also be students who were still undergoing the learning process in emergency schools.
The Minister's Circular, he said, was also present to minimize the potential for dropouts for children who do not want to continue school due to the impact of disasters.
"So we are also monitoring the presence of students and teachers at school, especially those who currently have to relocate or move," said Jamjam.
In addition to SPMB, the Ministry of Education and Culture also has a Ministerial Circular regarding post-disaster learning.
Currently, he said, the Ministry of Education and Culture's Learning Curriculum Center team was also in the field to provide assistance to local governments regarding the learning model in emergency schools.
"So if the learning is in general how the learning process in the tent, then if you are also being arranged for the recovery of psychosocial conditions and also the increase in teacher capacity in disaster-affected areas," he said.
