TANJUNG SELOR - The recruitment process for PT Kalimantan Aluminium Industri (KAI) workers outside North Kalimantan (Kaltara) has attracted public attention. The reason is that the company operating in the Indonesian Green Industrial Area (KIHI) Tana Kuning-Mangkupadi, Bulungan Regency is suspected of recruiting at the Special Job Exchange (BKK) SMK Singosari, Malang, East Java.
This information emerged from the circulation of a video showing the selection process for labor at the school. Recruitment outside the region also raised public questions about the commitment to local labor priorities on the Benuanta earth.
This recruitment has drawn criticism from the Kaltara Regional Representative Council (Dapil) Commission VII member, Rahmawati, who emphasized that companies operating in the Kaltara national strategic project (PSN) area must prioritize the local community in the recruitment process.
"I ask all companies operating in Kaltara, including PSN, to prioritize children from Kaltara who can work," he said, Tuesday, February 24.
The Gerindra Faction politician said that the presence of large investments in this 34th province should not make local people marginalized from job opportunities in their own areas.
"Don't let big industries stand in Kaltara, but Kaltara people only become spectators in their own land," he said.
Rahmawati encouraged a clear and regional-oriented workforce composition, namely the majority of them are from Kaltara.
"Our hope is that at least 75 percent of the workforce will come from the local community and 25 percent from outside for positions that do require certain competencies," he said.
Rahmawati assessed that the recruitment of labor from outside the region should be the last option if the labor needs cannot be met from within the region.
"If there is a position that requires special expertise and is not yet available in Kaltara, please fill it from outside. But the first priority must still be the local community," he said.
In addition, he also emphasized the importance of improving the quality of human resources so that Kaltara workers are able to compete in the modern industrial sector.
"We have and continue to encourage vocational schools to be more advanced. Training institutions for Kaltara children must be established and improved in quality," said Rahmawati.
"We want Kaltara children not only to work as unskilled labor, but also to fill technical and professional positions," he continued.
Rahmawati revealed that her party would bring the issue of recruiting local workers to the central level through an official forum in the DPR.
"Later we will discuss this issue in the RDP (Public Hearing) with the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, This must be a serious concern," he said.
He added that recruitment outside the region raised public questions about whether Kaltara lacked SMK graduates or had not met the industry's required qualifications.
"Although large industrial companies need labor with certain technical competencies, the Kaltara community hopes that the priority for local labor remains the main commitment," he concluded.
It is known that PT KAI is one of the main companies in the Yellow Land-Mangkupadi KIHI which has the status of a National Strategic Project and is projected to absorb thousands of workers from the construction phase to operations.
