JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Rano Alfath, urged the Indonesian National Police to thoroughly investigate the alleged case of abuse that killed AT (14), a student of the Tsanawiyah Madrasah (MTs) in Tual City, Maluku.
Rano emphasized that the legal process against the suspect, who is a member of the Brimob with the initials Bripda MS, must be carried out openly without any attempt to cover up the facts.
"We ask that this case be investigated thoroughly, transparently, and professionally. Don't let anyone try to cover up the facts or hinder the legal process. The state must be present to ensure that justice is truly upheld," Rano said in his statement, Monday, February 23.
Rano emphasized that transparency is the key to maintaining public confidence in the police institution. He also asked investigators not to give room for any party to intervene in the case that took the life of the underage child.
"We also ask for security guarantees for the victims' families to avoid pressure from certain parties during the process of seeking justice," he said.
Furthermore, Rano reminded that protection for the victim's family is a priority that must not be ignored. According to him, law enforcement officers are obliged to ensure the safety and comfort of the family in undergoing all stages of the law in Tual City.
The head of the DPR legal commission also instructed that there should be no room for intimidation that could discourage the victim's family in seeking justice.
"Make sure there is no intimidation of the victim's family. They are entitled to protection and legal certainty. All processes must be carried out openly so that the public can see that justice is really upheld without discrimination," said Rano.
The PKB legislator appreciated the quick steps of the Tual Police in determining the suspects. Even so, Rano emphasized that supervision would continue until the green table.
He stated that Commission III of the DPR RI promised to monitor the development of this case periodically to ensure that the commitment to professionalism of the National Police is not just a promise on paper.
"Commitment to transparency must be proven by concrete actions, starting from the investigation process to the trial. We will monitor to ensure that the legal process runs without intervention, without pressure, and without compromising on justice," concluded Rano.
It is known that this tragic incident began with an alleged persecution around the Uningrat Campus, Tual City, on Thursday, February 19. The perpetrators were identified as members of Brimob Kompi 1 Battalion of the Pioneer Brimob of the Maluku Police.
Currently, the Tual Police have officially named Bripda MS as a suspect after his status was raised from a reported post-case and examination of witnesses.
